SPLAT 11-WELL PALETTE

Glazed ceramic palettes are the gold standard unlike metal and plastic, glazed ceramic allows water-based paints to spread out and show their true colors. On plastic palettes, the paint simply beads up, so it’s hard to mix and evaluate the color.

This handmade palette from Busy Hands Studio in Michigan features a cute, 11-well “Splat” layout, with individual wells and mixing space in between (if you’re comfortable coloring outside the lines.) The top is glazed white, and the bottom is unglazed reddish-brown clay.
